While lower quality (Domain Validation) SSL certificates only validate basic domain information, Organisation and Extended Validation certificates are fully validated to verify both the domain and organisation information.
By requiring organisation validation, the Certificate Authority is making it more difficult for illegitimate companies to obtain a false certificate, thus helping to protect against phishing.
