What is an auDA Complaint?

The .au Domain Administration Limited (auDA) is the policy body that manages and enforces the rules for all domains in the .au namespace. For more information about who auDA is, we recommend reading this FAQ article.

When registering a Domain Name in the .au namespace, you agree to follow the .au Domain Administration Rules. If your Registrant details are invalid, you may be subject to an auDA Complaint, which requires you to update those details to maintain the Domain Name.

When a complaint is raised against a Domain Name, the Synergy Wholesale Complaints Team emails the domain’s Registrant Contact to inform them of the new case.

Why is there a complaint on my domain?

Having an auDA Complaint raised against your Domain Name does not necessarily mean that a third party has complained. Most cases are raised after an auDA audits a handful of Domain Names. If their Compliance Team identifies an issue with an audited Domain Name, they will initiate a complaint.

There are multiple reasons why your Domain Name may have eligibility issues. In most cases, it is simply due to outdated Registrant information (eg. cancelled ABN) or missing details. The email you received from Synergy Wholesale will outline the basis for the complaint in the header.

As per auDA requirements, our website has a complaint form that allows a third party to open a case against a Domain Name held with us. The Synergy Wholesale Complaints Team reviews these cases and determines their validity. The complaint form should only be used for Domain Names where the Registrant details are invalid or do not match the .au Domain Administration Rules.

Why did I receive an email from Synergy Wholesale? I thought my domain was registered elsewhere?

Synergy Wholesale is a white-label wholesaler serving as a domain Registrar for many businesses, including VentraIP Australia. Because of this, all active domain complaints are managed directly with Synergy Wholesale rather than our resellers. You can verify this using the Synergy Wholesale Partner Lookup.

How do I get the complaint removed from my domain?

You will need to reply directly to the email you received from the Synergy Wholesale Complaints Team, and they can begin resolving the complaint from your domain. They can explain the complaint further when you contact them and work with you to resolve the eligibility issue. If you cannot reply to the email, please instead contact the Synergy Wholesale Complaints Team via their email (customercare@synergywholesale.com).

We also have a separate article that covers some common types of auDA Complaints and how you can resolve them. Click here to have a read.

Please Note: The Complaints Team at Synergy Wholesale is only available during standard business hours on weekdays and does not have a direct phone number for you to contact regarding auDA complaints. All auDA correspondence is handled via email only.
