Completing a Change of Registrant from a cancelled ABN

(Please note that a Change of Registrant comes at a cost to the value of how many years you wish to hold the registration for. Changing the registrant will reset the domain’s license period. You will keep any existing full years and add the additional year(s) of renewal you select, up to the maximum period allowed. Partial years will not be carried over.)

Partners can initiate a Change of Registrant (CoR) through the Synergy Wholesale Management System regardless of its current ABN status. Any domains with invalid .au eligibility will require a CoR unless registered under an active Trust or Partnership. You can check for invalid .au domain names through the AU Domain Eligibility Status page through your Synergy Wholesale account. To resolve any ineligibility issues, you must initiate a CoR through the 'Initiate CoR' button on the Domain's management page. In cases where the current Registrant is linked to a cancelled Trust or Company ABN/ACN, supporting documentation will be required. These must be submitted through the whitelabel forms after the CoR has been initiated. At least one of the following is required: Sales Agreement:
  • A copy of a sales agreement that shows the business was sold or changed hands.
  • The agreement must clearly indicate that the proposed company/entity has acquired the current company/entity.
Signed Letter on Company Letterhead:
  • A letter signed on company letterhead stating that the domain name has changed hands.
  • If you choose to provide a letter, it must explicitly state the full domain name being transferred from one business to another.
Statutory Declaration:
  • A Statutory Declaration outlining who the domain should be transferred to and the desired outcome, signed by a Justice of the Peace or an authorised witness.
Note: While only one of the above is required to proceed, we recommend providing as much information as possible to minimise any need for our team to request more information. Where there is a gap between the currently listed company ABN's cancellation date and the proposed new ABN's active from date, the registrant must fill in a section noting the ABN/ACN of the commercial entity that held the domain during this time.

For Sole Traders and Partnerships

Option one: Reactivate your ABN
  • If you haven’t moved entities or to another company, you can re-activate your ABN. You can refer to this page here.
  • Once reactivated, no further action is required.
Option two: Perform a CoR
  • If you have moved to another entity and are no longer trading under the Partnership or Sole Trader ABN, you can perform a Change of Registrant.
  • Once initiated, provide the new ABN details to update the eligibility for the domain.
If you have any questions regarding account setup reach out to our 24/7 technical team via a ticket from your account or on (03) 83999483
