Individual Registrant Privacy Option (IRPO) for .nz domain names
The Individual Registrant Privacy Option (IRPO) is available for individuals who are not in significant trade. Choosing to enable IRPO withholds the telephone number and contact address from display in a WHOIS search. The registrant name, email address and country will still be visible, however, IRPO will withhold the registrant postal address and registrant telephone number from display.
This particular option was implemented after a comprehensive consultation conducted by the Domain Name Commission (the body responsible for .nz policy) and is entirely optional.
What is ‘significant trade’?
Significant trade is defined by the term “Trade” as it appears in the New Zealand Fair Trading Act 1986. This is “…any trade, business, industry, profession, occupation, activity of commerce, or undertaking relating to the supply or acquisition of goods or services or to the disposition or acquisition of any interest in land.” Further information can be found on the New Zealand Legislation website.
Enabling IRPO
IRPO can optionally be enabled through the Synergy Wholesale management system and the Synergy Wholesale API on a per-domain basis.
