Recovering my domain name password (EPP)

Category: Domain Policy

When transferring a domain name between registrars, you may be required to provide a domain name password  (sometimes called EPP code or AuthInfo).

Depending on which registrar your domain is registered through and what type of domain you have, the steps to obtain your domains authorisation code may differ.

Domain registered with Synergy Wholesale

If the domain name is currently registered with Synergy Wholesale, you can retrieve your domain name password through the Wholesale System.

  1. Login to the Synergy Wholesale Management System.
  2. Search for the domain name you want to recover the password for.
  3. Under the Domain Management category, select Synergy Wholesale Domain Lock Icon Password.
  4. The domain name password is show at the top of the page. On this page, you can also change the password (we provide 5 randomly generated passwords for your convenience) or you can send the password via email to the Registrant.

Domain is registered with another Registrar

.au domain name (such as com.au, net.au, org.au, id.au or asn.au)

If you own a .au domain name, you may use the instructions below to get the auDA to email the domain name password to the Registrant email address listed in your domains WHOIS contact details.

  1. Go to https://pw.auda.org.au/.
  2. Type in the domain name and complete the CAPTCHA code.
  3. The results will return the Registrar of Record, the Registrant Name and the Registrant email address for the domain name.
  4. Click on the Email button to have the current domain name password emailed to the Registrant email address. If the email address is not correct you can contact the Registrar of Record to request assistance.

gTLD or newTLD domain name (com, net, biz, photography, email, xyz)

To recover the domain name password for your gTLD or newTLD domain name you will need to contact the Registrar of Record for that domain name. To find the Registrar of Record you can complete a WHOIS search for the domain name on a variety of different WHOIS lookup websites.

  1. Go to http://whois.domaintools.com/.
  2. Type the domain name and complete the search.
  3. The results in the WHOIS lookup will return the Registrar of Record for the name. You will need to make contact with the Registrar of Record who will be able to assist you in recovering your domain name password.
