There are instances where multiple registrants have applied for a Priority Category 1 application for the same domain name in the .au direct namespace. Where two or more registrants have all applied for the same domain, the applicants must negotiate between themselves to determine who will be allocated the .au direct domain name.
When registering a new .au direct domain name and .id.au, you have the ability to register your domain as an individual. As part of auDA’s eligibility requirements, we must verify you are an Australian Resident/Citizen.
This guide is specifically for .au Direct domain Applications, not the domain names themselves. Synergy Wholesale is not participating in auDA’s process to allow registrants to transfer their .au direct application to Synergy Wholesale from another registrar.
Use the official auDA Priority Status Tool to look up the priority allocation status for a .au direct domain name, as well as review the status for all applicable existing domain names against it. This will help you identify whom the registrant may need to contact and negotiate with to secure a contested .au direct domain name.
The Priority Category assigned to the domains listed on the Priority Status Tool for the involved .au direct domain name will influence what needs to happen to have this resolved, as well as how you should make your direct .au application. Essentially if the registrant has domains all in one particular category, you’ll want to follow the sections below.
If a registrant has an existing domain in the .au namespace and does not wish to apply for the matching .au direct name, or would like to withdraw an existing application, they can “decline to apply”. This will either move the .au direct name on to other potential applicants, or where you only wish to apply under your most eligible domain, it will speed up the process of having it assigned by removing unnecessary pending applications.
